GRINTON - RIVER SWALE
This is to many people THE JEWEL in Thornaby’s crown, almost five miles of uninterrupted fishing on the banks of the river Swale in beautiful Swaledale stretching upstream from Grinton Road Bridge up past Scaba Wath Bridge all the way to Isles Bridge at Low Row above Reeth.
This is a typical upland dales river running over gravel and ever changing with rapids, riffles and glides linking one pool to the next.
With gin clear mainly shallow water the Trout can see for miles and the most successful angler is usually well practised in stealth.
There are no coarse fish here other than perhaps the occasional Eel and Bullhead, therefore this is the ideal place for travelling light and covering lots of spots carrying no more than a tin of Flies or Worms and a camera for the stunning views.
